Ten young people from the Wexford Youth Action Project and Access 2000 paid a visit to Dáil Eireann on the 3rd of December to highlight the issue of youth unemployment.
The group were hosted by John Lyons TD who has spearheaded a pilot Youth Guarantee project in the Ballymun area. At an hour long meeting members of the group talked about the difficulties young unemployed people in a rural County experience in accessing training, employment support and jobs. The group then met with Oireachtas members from Co. Wexford including Minister Brendan Howlin, Paul Kehoe, John Browne, Mick Wallace and Senators Michael Darcy and Jim Walsh.
The visit finished with a tour of Leinster House. We hope this will accelerate the process of securing a pilot Youth Guarantee scheme for Wexford and open up a lasting and productive relationship between young jobseekers in the County and the public representatives working on their behalf to bring about changes and improvements to services. Ní neart go cur le chéile!
