Our Community Development & Outreach team are working with individuals & local groups in Taghmon village to develop an amenity area supported by the Community Enhancement Programme in collaboration with Wexford County Council’s Local & Community Development Committee (LCDC).
The area finally agreed upon for the project, following much local consultation and with many good ideas put forward, was the monument at the bottom of Main Street, Taghmon .
Work began in October 2018, after extensive planning & consultation with the local community.
Before: Area selected for project – August 2018
The monument and surrounds have now been sandblasted, bars painted with protective paint, seating areas have all been stripped and power washed. New treated timbers have been purchased, they are currently being painted and are due to be put back into all seating areas, 2 new picnic benches are waiting to be delivered, as well as a lorry load of new stones. Planters and flowers are also on their way.
The lorry load of stone is due to be delivered on Tuesday afternoon, 20th November, 2018 and we are seeking volunteers to get involved to help spread the stones. Shovels, wheelbarrows and rakes will be provided and any extra help with this work is very much welcomed.
If you are unable to do the physical work please come along anyway – your company & moral support, a flask of tea, soup, sandwiches or biscuits would also be very welcome. As this is a community project it would be great to see all people from the village getting involved, young and old, so please come along on Tuesday afternoon and ask friends and family members to come along too.
Keep an eye on WLD Facebook and Taghmon local social media pages for confirmed times or any changes due to bad weather.
