What is Wexford Rural Social Scheme?
The Rural Social Scheme was initiated by the Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, Mr. Eamon O Cuiv, T.D., and announced in the budget of December 2003. This programme allows low-income farmers and fishermen who are unable to earn an adequate living from their holding/fishing, to earn a supplementary income.
Wexford Local Development at present has a total of 39 participants working in the following areas:
- Maintaining Walkways
- Community & Village Maintenance
- Administration/Maintenance/Caretaking of Community & Sporting Facilities
- Maintaining Cultural & Heritage Centres/Not-for-Profit Projects
- Childcare/Youth work
- Care of the Elderly
Wexford Local Development regularly updates its waiting list for Participants and if you are a farmer or fisherman or spouse thereof and are in receipt of any of the following payments then you may be eligible to gain employment on our Rural Social Scheme:
- Farm Assist/Fish Assist
- Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Disability Allowance
- Recipients of one-parent family payments
- Widow(ers) Pension (contributory and non-contributory)
Community groups in County Wexford are benefiting from the skills and talents of local farmers and fishermen under this scheme.
