As part of Literacy Awareness Month, staff from Wexford County Council library services visited our four offices to give us an overview of the wide range of services and resources on offer via our local libraries.
A library membership offers much more than access to books. As a library member, you have the opportunity to upskill with a course, connect with others at community events, learn a new language and even borrow items such as sensory toys and C-Pens.
Wexford Libraries are supporting literacy through a number of free services, including:
- Rental of C-Pens (a portable, pocket-sized scanning pen used to scan printed text and read it aloud)
- Digital classes to help build confidence in using digital devices and apps
- Free Wi-Fi and computer access at all locations
- Access to eBooks, eNewspapers and eMagazines via BorrowBox
- Audiobook rentals
- Free eLearning courses through the Universal Classes website
- More than 3,000 digital picture books in 65 languages through the LOTE4Kids platform
- Online language learning with Transparent Languages online
- Book and writing clubs
- RhymeTime and StoryTime events to support early childhood literacy
- Literacy and Numeracy Licences
- Large print books
…and so much more.
As a Literacy Friendly organisation, WLD is delighted to be able to signpost the people that we work with to the wonderful free literacy services, supports and learning opportunities available at our local libraries.
